Leslie Safran Barson has over 30 years experience in property management. In 1993 she founded The Otherwise Club, a community centre in Central London for home educating families, which she continues to run. Leslie home educated her two children as a single parent, whilst pursuing a part time academic career. She is widely published and speaks internationally.
Sian Fletcher has worked in finance for various organisations, including development finance for a housing association, and is currently working as financial controller for one of the UK’s largest citizens advice bureaux. Whilst working part time she co-home educated her daughter; she was an active member of The Otherwise Club and continues to be a trustee and treasurer. Sian is a BACP accredited integrative counsellor.
Alison Taylor is committed to studying permaculture and environmental and social change issues. She has a degree in Drama and English and is also trained in communication skills, basic counselling, effectiveness training, non-violent communication and workshop facilitation. She is currently home educating her two children and is an active member of the home education community.
Deirdre (Dee) Woods is a multi talented community specialist, urban agriculturalist, cook, broadcaster, designer/maker, writer and poet. With a diverse background in the arts, media, design, community work, health promotion, mental health and play work, she specialised in developing culturally specific projects for children, young people, girls and women. Deirdre has worked in Trinidad and Tobago, New York, USA and the UK. She is committed to lifelong, self directed learning and vocational education, and has two children who are happily learning autonomously.
