Volunteering with LCNC

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us!  

 

LCNC is an innovative and exciting project entirely volunteer-based. As a volunteer with LCNC, there will be numerous opportunities to develop your skills through formal and informal learning, volunteering on different projects.


Those who want to volunteer with LCNC start out by helping on one of our various projects. You can then become more involved and apply to become a member of the Management Team. Volunteering requires a shorter and simpler process than joining the Management Team. The joining process is explained below.

 

Volunteering with LCNC

To date volunteers have helped us with one off events such as London Green Fair or the London Permaculture Festival, mostly during the summer. We have also had volunteers working with us on the pilot build.

 

Some areas where we may have opportunities for volunteers are:

Alternative Building

Carpentry and Joinery

Marketing/PR

Finance

Fundraising

Environmental

Gardening and Food Growing

Neighbourhood/Community Engagement

Administration

Campaigning and Information

Procurement, Management and Maintenance

Training

 

When you volunteer we get to know each other and you are able to get a feel for the co-op and how we work in practice. If you would then like to get more involved, you can then apply to join the Management Team.

 

The Management Team
The Management Team aims to steer the project and make sure that it becomes a reality. The Management Team shares the work. This means each member is building their skills base and knowledge, adding to the capacity of the organisation. We meet regularly, weekly by Skype, monthly in person and as and when required. The team as a whole is collectively responsible and accountable to each other with discrete tasks allocated on a flexible basis. Areas of responsibility are interchangeable and everyone has comprehensive knowledge of the whole project ensuring LCNC is more resilient, sustainable and upholds the co-operative principles.

 

As a volunteer you would need to have an understanding of the project and agree with our principles and support our aims. We also require a commitment to high-quality work and open communication.

 

Management Team Opportunities

The project is at a crucial stage of development and we are seeking volunteers with a willingness to learn and a commitment to quality work. Skills and experience in fund-raising, planning, project management and  communication are desirable.

 

There are currently four people on the management team and we are at the stage of identifying and procuring land and developing and implementing our fundraising strategy.

 

You would need to be able to commit to a minimum of twenty hours per month.

 

We want our Management Team to reflect the diversity of our community and include people from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, abilities and ethnicities. We therefore particularly welcome applications from people of colour, disabled people and men. Although joining the Management Team cannot guarantee you a place to live, you will be part of a creative team pioneering an exciting neighbourhood project.
